Loom Armchair

Designed for the Melbourne Design Week exhibition ‘Synthesis’ by Ruby Shields. The Loom Armchair was crafted from textile offcuts donated from Ruby Shields, Mokum, James Dunlop Textiles and Culture Cush. These textiles were sewn into ‘bow tie’ like shapes and woven through the stainless steel frame.

This work challenges conventional approaches to upholstery and comfort in furniture design. Rather than concealing structure beneath layers of foam and textile, Loom Armchair exposes and celebrates the making process, inviting users to engage with its materiality.
